A first-timer's guide to Phuket's quiet beaches
Skip the busy strips. These calmer bays on Phuket have soft sand, clear water and room to spread out your towel.
Phuket has a reputation for crowds, but the island is bigger than its busiest beach. Head north or to the small coves of the south and you will find quiet sand, family-run cafés and sunsets without the noise.
The north coast
Long, pine-fringed beaches near the airport are wonderfully empty in the mornings and have gentle water that is good for swimming outside the monsoon months.
Hidden coves in the south
Small bays reached by a short walk or a longtail boat reward the effort with snorkelling right off the sand.
